Job Description

CHA is currently seeking a Senior Mechanical Energy Engineer (Job ID 5245) to join our Generation & Energy Management Business Practice in our Parsippany, NJ office location.

CHA is looking for a Senior Engineer with both energy auditing and mechanical design experience.  The design experience is particularly important in allowing the engineer to put together accurate scopes of work and cost estimates for the chosen ECMs in the energy audit.  The Senior Engineer will perform energy audits and lead or assist with follow-up design after the energy audits are complete.  The Senior Engineer will also at times lead teams of engineers on energy audits and help oversee some of the work being done in our NJ office.

The energy audits may be ASHRAE Level 1, 2, or 3; they may be conducted at educational, laboratory, institutional, commercial, or industrial facilities.  Most often, the audits will be ASHRAE Level 3; conceptual design and cost estimates with an accuracy of +/- 20% are typically required to be developed by the engineer. In addition, the Senior Engineer will be part of a design team that implements the audit into a set of drawings issued for construction. The Senior Engineer’s reports and calculations will be overseen by the mechanical energy group manager and CHA’s Chief Energy Engineer.

Typical energy audit tasks include completing field work on site, performing energy-related calculations, writing reports, and leading results meetings with clients. Calculations are typically done in spreadsheet format, though at times modeling software is used. Commissioning tasks include writing the following documents: commissioning plans, pre-functional checklists, functional checklists, O&M plans, M&V plans, and final reports. It also involves witnessing testing and equipment function on site. M&V may include deploying data loggers and performing extensive data analysis to determine results.

The Senior Engineer is expected to represent CHA both in doing field work and in client meetings.  They must work with facility and maintenance staff to gather the required on-site data information independently.  The Senior Engineer is also expected to work on multiple projects simultaneously in a timely and cost-effective manner while meeting client, contractual and company requirements.  Starting salary negotiable based on experience.
