Job Description
As an Energy Engineer, you will be a key member of our consulting team supporting energy efficiency programs in the Mid-Atlantic region. The Energy Engineer will be a key technical and field resource for the team, assessing the impact of energy efficiency programs and conducting onsite visits to commercial and industrial facilities.
The successful candidate will be located in the central or northern New Jersey area.
This is a full-time, salaried position. It is a remote position with up to 40% travel.
Job Responsibilities
- Serve as task lead and Deputy Project Manager for multiple evaluation efforts related to energy efficiency programs
- Perform walk-through (onsite) and virtual inspections of commercial and industrial facilities – as part of evaluations, surveys, and research studies – for the purposes of:
- Verifying installation of energy efficient equipment or systems
- Collecting and documenting information and data
- Interviewing facility owners and managers about the operation of equipment
- Deploy temporary data logging or metering equipment
- Perform energy and peak demand savings calculations for various energy efficiency measures, using standard and custom engineering tools, formulas and methodologies
- Provide technical assistance for commercial and industrial energy efficiency programs, for both internal and external parties
- Review and update residential energy simulations using software such as REM/Rate
- Research funding opportunities (rebates, grants, and financial assistance programs) for energy efficiency and sustainability projects at commercial facilities
- Performing energy data analytics and benchmarking

- Analyze energy performance of new construction facilities, including those that achieved LEED certification
- Research emerging innovative technologies related to commercial building systems
- Review benefit/cost/risk models for energy efficiency projects and programs
- Perform QA/QC activities, including conducting pre-and post-installation energy efficiency project inspections.
- Research and identify tools and resources to support program evaluation efforts
- Maintain and be responsible for complete and reliable records of data, notes, findings, and photos from site inspections and analyses.
- Coordinate regularly with internal engineering staff and project managers
- Review technical documentation associated with energy efficiency projects – application forms, invoices, specification sheets, spreadsheet calculations, etc.
- Participate in regular meetings and conference calls with both internal and external parties
- Support the development of written reports and slideshow presentations
- Coordinate with colleagues to ensure proper organization of files, paperwork, and data entry
- Communicate professionally (oral and written) and promptly with customers, clients, contractors/trade allies and the team
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned
Qualifications
- Bachelors Degree in Engineering
- Masters Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Industrial Engineering preferred
- 2-4 years of professional experience with energy efficiency consultancy, sales, construction, lighting, HVAC, and/or as field technician
- Experience with engineering analytics and cost analysis
- Experience with probability, statistics, and regression analyses
- Experience performing quality assurance and quality control (QA QC) reviews
- Experience with energy modeling software, such as eQUEST and Trane TRACE
- Familiarity with industrial and manufacturing processes and production operations
- Experience coordinating various parties and accounting for multiple variables

- Strong verbal and written communications skills and the ability to articulate your ideas in a virtual working environment
- Comfortable and experienced speaking over the phone
- Excellent organizational skills
- Strong mathematical skills and competence with spreadsheet analyses
- Proficient with Microsoft Office products (specifically Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams, SharePoint)
- Strong data entry skills in entering information in tracking systems/databases
- Must be able to handle a wide work variety and work in a fast-paced environment
- Must be a detail-oriented, organized, self-starter, and have an ability to prioritize workload
Miscellaneous Job Information
- Must have a valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle
- Domestic travel will be required in the New Jersey and Mid-Atlantic area (approximately 40% of the time with reliable transportation)
