Job Description

This position supports the operational component of TRC’s commercial and residential energy efficiency programs. The candidate will perform a variety of processing activities in support of Energy Consultants, installation Partners and customers on energy efficiency projects.  As a Project Specialist, the individual will be responsible for, but not limited to, project creation support, document verification, accurate and timely reviews of projects and payment of project rebates.

The Project Specialist (PS) will be required to operate across several programs and multiple dashboard queues to assure that projects are continuously progressed based on daily responses from contractors and customers.  The PS will have specific accountabilities to assure project accuracy and that project requirements have been validated and met. Candidate must be able to work within a multi-faceted environment to meet both project and program goals and objectives. The candidate must operate at a high degree of accuracy and be comfortable assessing various types of submittals and progressing applications to their next stages of review.

The Project Specialist will use MS Dynamics CRM software to progress energy efficiency applications through required milestones and interact across functional areas in order to ensure timely responses to customers and program partners; raise issues and exceptions to appropriate levels for resolution; provide insights on how to improve program design and processing for better overall delivery and value; understand and communicate changes in volume trends to help offset potential delays; ensure outstanding customer and contractor satisfaction; cross train coworkers on program requirements; participate in local New Brunswick, NJ marketing events and conferences.

  • Energy Efficiency program experience.
  • Professional presence with desire to improve processes and exceed program savings goals.

Professional Skills

  • Advanced Word skills; Understands and has strong Excel skills.
  • Associates degree from an accredited college in a related discipline experience is desirable.
  • Three plus years of experience supporting customer programs is desirable.
  • Demonstrated success in developing and maintaining customer, client, and partner relationships with a high level of satisfaction
  • Professional presence with desire to improve processes and exceed program savings goals.
  • Can present program details to audiences for recruitment and participation requirements.                                                         

Work Environment

There will be a blend of onsite and remote work. Candidate will be required to travel to within the State of New Jersey 25% of their time. Candidate will be required to be in the office bimonthly (average) at the TRC NJ office located at 317 George Street, Suite 520, New Brunswick, NJ 08901.


TRC will provide the required computer equipment to perform their work. TRC will not provide printers. Equipment supplied by TRC is to be used for business purposes and will be maintained by TRC. An inventory of all TRC IT equipment received by each candidate will be provided and candidates receiving IT equipment agree to take appropriate action to protect the items from damage or theft. Upon termination of assignment, all Company IT equipment will be returned to the TRC.


  • Consistent with TRC’s expectations on information security, candidates must adhere to all Company policies for acceptable use and protection of Company equipment, systems, networks, and information.
  • Candidates are responsible for securing computing equipment, protecting logged-in computers from accidental or intentional misuse, and using extra care when handling Company and customer proprietary and confidential information, in both digital and paper forms.
  • All measures should be taken to ensure that the Company is not unreasonably exposed to cybersecurity threats or loss of information.
  • Candidates are prohibited from using publicly accessible wi-fi when working on TRC computer equipment. USB devices will be blocked on all TRC computer equipment.
  •  Candidate will be responsible for securing an adequate internet connection (speed, security, and bandwidth) and phone service to effectively perform the essential duties of the job. Phone service can be cell service. Internet and phone service are at the candidate’s expense.
  •  Candidates will be responsible for maintaining their home offices so that they can accomplish their work in an efficient, safe, and expeditious manner. TRC will not be responsible for costs associated with the setup of the candidate's home office to include remodeling, furniture such as desks, chairs or file cabinets, and lighting or repairs or modifications to the home office space. TRC accepts no responsibility for damage or repairs to candidate-owned equipment.

Miscellaneous Job Information

  • Project Specialist will work 40 hours a week.
  • Any hours over 40 hours a week must be preapproved in writing from TRC Manager. All written approvals must be submitted with that week’s timesheet in order for TRC to pay for those hours over 40 hours a week.
