Job Description
TRC is seeking a qualified individual to support commercial and industrial (C&I) energy efficiency and decarbonization primarily for programs in New Jersey and Virginia. Responsibilities may include energy analysis, energy modeling, energy auditing, engineering reviews, technical writing, and project management for multiple C&I projects and/or customers. Candidates must possess strong technical capabilities including knowledge of building systems, energy efficiency, demand management, and decarbonization. The desired candidate will work collaboratively with the Advanced Energy team and clients to provide engineering support for market transforming programs that encourage energy efficiency along the East Coast.
The candidate will be presented with the challenge of a range of C&I projects with a variety of energy systems. There will be significant interface with clients and customers that may require travel. The position requires the ability to manage projects, flexibility, diversity of technical expertise, strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, and excellent customer care skills. The candidate will rely on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals and perform a variety of complicated tasks.
This position is based out of New Brunswick, NJ but is currently full-time remote. This position is currently designated as a Work From Home (WFH) position, under the guidelines outlined in our WFH Policy. WFH arrangements may be revised or discontinued at the discretion of the company.
Key Job Responsibilities
- Developing and reviewing calculations and assumptions used to estimate or measure savings due to energy efficiency projects.
- Developing technical reports that summarize project scope, calculation methodologies, key assumptions, and recommendations.
- Conducting project fieldwork and energy savings analysis using standard resources and templates and custom tool development.
- Working on a variety of energy saving calculations, strategies and projects.
- Performing facility utility analysis and energy benchmarking using EnergyStar Portfolio Manager.
- Conducting facility ASHRAE Level II and III audits for a variety of building sectors: universities, schools, hospitals, multifamily, and municipalities.
- Delivering high quality reports and calculations requiring minimal internal review efforts.
- Managing multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines and client expectations.
- Providing technical assistance to customers, contractors, and other stakeholders including support with energy savings calculations and meeting program requirements.
- Deploying metering equipment and analyzing large data sets to validate baseline and replacement equipment operation.
- Keeping managers aware of project schedules and progress and providing regular time charging/budget updates as requested.
- Conducting on-site meetings and presentations and provide answers to technical and program related questions.
- Staying informed about energy issues and industry trends through regular technical reading and participation in local and national professional organizations.
- Collaborating with a large and diverse team of project engineers located throughout the East Coast and nationally.
Desired Skills and Experience
- Eligibility to work in the United States and residency in the State of Virgnia.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Energy). Other engineering disciplines will be considered.
- 1-5 years of experience with energy analysis, energy modeling, ASHRAE Level I, II or III energy auditing, and technical report writing.
- Knowledge of building systems commissioning, HVAC design, energy efficiency technologies, green building and high-performance design. Hands on experience with mechanical systems is a strong plus.
- Experience in electrification and energy efficiency recommendations including measures such as heat pump installations, HVAC and central plant upgrades and controls, lighting retrofits and controls, envelope improvements, motor replacement and controls, and refrigeration systems.
- Preference will be given to candidates familiar with energy saving strategies who have experience calculating the associated energy savings for measures listed above.
- Experience with spreadsheet-based analysis techniques and/or energy modeling applications (eQUEST, Trane Trace, EnergyPro, EnergyPlus, etc.).
- Strong project management skills with the ability to set priorities, collect and document project requirements, successfully handle multiple projects simultaneously, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Desire to be a quick and eager learner of new material and think holistically through complex problems, with technical and non-technical components.
- Problem-solving ability with a proactive and collaborative style that works well in teams.
- Exceptional organizational, time-management, and planning skills.
- CEM or CEA accreditation (or equivalent) is a plus.
- EIT and PE accreditation is a plus.
- Aptitude for communicating (written and oral) technical and program concepts to clients, contractors, consumers, and other interested people or organizations.
- Team-oriented, hands-on, highly skilled, adaptive, and client-focused.
Travel
Up to 25% within the State of New Jersey.
