Job Description
TRC is seeking a qualified individual to support commercial and industrial (C&I) energy efficiency and decarbonization programs in the Northeast. Responsibilities may include development of M&V plans, deployment and retrieval of metering equipment, energy analysis, site inspections, technical writing, and project management for multiple C&I projects and/or customers. Candidates must possess strong technical capabilities including knowledge of building systems, energy efficiency, demand management, green building and decarbonization. The desired candidate will work collaboratively with the Advanced Energy team and clients to provide M&V support and implement market transforming programs that encourage energy efficiency along the East Coast.
This position is based out of New Brunswick, New Jersey but is currently full-time remote. This position is currently designated as a Work From Home (WFH) position, under the guidelines outlined in our WFH Policy. WFH arrangements may be revised or discontinued at the discretion of the company.
Key Job Responsibilities
- Coordinating and managing energy efficiency and decarbonization projects.
- Working on a variety of energy saving calculations, strategies and projects.
- Performing preliminary desk reviews and analysis.
- Developing project-specific M&V plans including sampling approach and safety requirements.
- Performing reviews of M&V plans to verify cost, approaches, and savings confidence.
- Conducting pre-installation inspections to collect data and performing functional testing observations needed to establish baseline conditions.
- Installing and removing meters and data collection equipment.
- Collecting and analyzing data from a facility’s building automation system.
- Analyzing M&V data to develop trends, confirm savings projections, establish baseline conditions, and/or establish proposed conditions.
- Developing technical reports that summarize project scope, calculation methodologies, M&V activities, M&V results, key assumptions, and recommendations.
- Keeping managers aware of project schedules and progress and providing regular time charging/budget updates as requested.
- Providing technical mentorship to junior engineers and quality control of calculations.
- Staying informed about energy issues and industry trends through regular technical reading and participation in local and national professional organizations.
- Assisting in the development and/or implementation of technical protocols, quality assurance procedures and technical requirements for energy efficiency programs.
- Assisting in the development and/or implementation of M&V guidelines for common measure types for energy efficiency programs.
- Communicating with contractors and program administrators regarding program requirements.
Desired Skills and Experience
- Bachelors or Master’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Energy). Other engineering disciplines will be considered.
- 5-10 years of experience with M&V, energy analysis, energy modeling, ASHRAE Level I, II or III energy auditing, and technical report writing.
- Strong working knowledge of measurement and verification techniques and how to apply IPMVP based on project scope and goals.
- Strong understanding of safety practices required to perform on-site M&V.
- Knowledge of building systems commissioning, HVAC design, energy efficiency technologies, green building and high-performance design. Hands on experience with mechanical systems is a strong plus.
- Experience in electrification and energy efficiency recommendations including measures such as heat pump installations, HVAC and central plant upgrades and controls, lighting retrofits and controls, envelope improvements, motor replacement and controls, and refrigeration systems.
- Preference will be given to candidates familiar with M&V methods and have experience deploying equipment and analyzing M&V data to develop trends, confirm project savings, and establish baseline/proposed conditions.
- Experience analyzing large data sets using software tools and developing data visualizations.
- Strong project management skills with the ability to set priorities, collect and document project requirements, successfully handle multiple projects simultaneously, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Desire to be a quick and eager learner of new material and think holistically through complex problems, with technical and non-technical components.
- Problem-solving ability with a proactive and collaborative style that works well in teams.
- CMVP (or equivalent) accreditation is preferred.
- PE accreditation is a plus.
- Excellent oral and written communications skills.
