Job Description

This position supports TRC’s energy efficiency programs across the state of New Jersey. You perform energy auditing and analysis up to and including ASHRAE Level III, utility bill assessment, technical writing, and/or energy modeling for a range of building types, including multifamily, commercial & industrial, and institutional. You will have strong technical capabilities including knowledge of building systems, energy efficiency, and demand management.

You will be presented with a range of projects with a variety of energy systems. There will be significant interface with clients that may require travel throughout the state of New Jersey. This position requires flexibility; diversity of technical expertise; strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills; and excellent customer care skills. You will rely on your experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals and perform a variety of complicated tasks.

This position is based out of the TRC’s New Brunswick, NJ office, but is currently full-time remote due to the pandemic. Job Responsibilities

  • Conduct ASHRAE II and III level audits for commercial & industrial, multifamily, K-12 public schools, hospitals, universities, and publicly-owned facilities throughout NJ.
  • Perform utility bill analysis and energy benchmarking using EnergyStar Portfolio Manager.
  • Conducting project fieldwork, energy savings analysis, and report production using standard resources and templates and custom tool development.
  • Work on a variety of energy saving calculations, strategies, and projects.
  • Deliver high quality reports and audit calculations requiring minimal QA/QC efforts.
  • Manage multiple project assignments simultaneously while meeting deadlines and client expectations.
  • Review calculations and assumptions used to estimate or measure savings for to energy efficiency projects.
  • Keep managers aware of project schedules and progress; provide regular time charging/budget updates as requested.
  • Conduct on-site meetings and presentations and provide answers to technical and program related questions.

Minimum Requirements

  • Eligibility to work in the United States.
  • Residency in the State of New Jersey.
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Energy). Other engineering disciplines will be considered.
  • 2-5 years of experience with ASHRAE Level I and II energy auditing, report writing, and energy analysis.
  • Knowledge of building systems, commissioning, HVAC design, energy efficiency technologies, green building and high-performance design.
  • Experience in recommending energy efficiency measure work scopes in commercial and industrial buildings such as air infiltration reduction, HVAC upgrades, motors, lighting, building shell/envelope, appliances, refrigeration, and lighting.
  • Preference will be given to candidates familiar with energy saving strategies who have experience calculating the associated energy savings for measures listed above
  • Aptitude for communicating (written and oral) technical and program concepts to clients, contractors, consumers, and other interested people or organizations.
  • Team-oriented, hands-on, highly skilled, adaptive, and client-focused.

  • CEM or CEA accreditation (or equivalent) is a plus. EIT and PE accreditation is a plus.
